Getting Started

You want to decorate, but you don't know where to start. Here a few suggestions:

Start off by deciding what you want out of a particular room.
  • Is it a room used daily or is it a more formal space, just used occasionally?
  • What is your family makeup; young couple, young children, retiring couple, etc?
Having that in mind, plan out the layout. You may want to draw it out to scale on graph paper. Or you can find an online room planner to use. Many retailers have one available on their website.
  • Do you have a natural focal point to work with?
  • Do you have pieces that you are planning on keeping and working into the design?
Now, make a list of things you will need to buy. Using your room planner, you can figure out what the dimensions need to be prior to purchasing the pieces, which will save you much heartache.
  • What are you able to purchase at this time?
  • What do you need to save for?
Knowing what you need to purchase, you can watch for sales or financing offers.

These are just a few starting points. Stay tuned to future posts that will go into more detail.
